Galaxy Girl |
|
| |
It won't be hard to find Tina Winn's act at the Permian Basin Fair. Winn – better known as Galaxy Girl – will be performing acrobatics 12 stories over the fair grounds.
"It's the world's tallest aerial thrill show," said Winn, who will perform daily during the fair, alongside the Galaxy Globe of Death motorcycle stunt show.
Winn climbs a ladder to reach a pole that's 127 feet in the air to do handstands, hang by her feet and perform other stunts without a net or anything else to catch her if she falls.
She's slipped a few times and ended up with stitches but never had a fall. Winn is a seventh-generation circus performer who took on the role of Galaxy Girl 10 years ago. Her entourage includes her 21-year-old daughter, Ashley, who performs stunts with Hula Hoops, and motorcycle stunt riders Justin "Jupiter Justin" Chodkowski and Johnny "Johnny Rocket" Daly, who ride around the Globe of Death, a large steel ball.
Winn, a muscular 5-foot-1 blond who won't reveal her age, said she has to work out daily to stay in top physical shape for her act. She said she performs in most all kinds of weather except for rain, although extreme wind can force her to cancel her routine.
Performing 35- to 40-minute shows three times daily, she interacts with the audience when she's performing via a microphone. Like all the shows on the fair grounds, there is no charge for Winn's show beyond gate admission.
Her act is exciting and entertaining and people of all ages love her. She's a crowd favorite. |
